CHRISTMAS IS THE BEST, I’M JOYFUL AND FULL OF FESTIVE MERRIMENT!!!!!!!!
Do you feel like that’s what the world is telling you on social media?
It’s the happiest time of the year, after all.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas and definitely love all things glittery and cosy and festive. BUT I also know that this time of year can be a reminder of the things in your life you might feel you’re lacking. All of the festive happiness can draw your attention to some of the unhappiness in your life.
Maybe things haven’t worked out how you planned this year and now you’re nearing the end of 2017, there are some regrets or disappointments that are tugging at you.
I feel like someone should acknowledge that the best day of the year, can be a really tough one for those experiencing any loneliness or sadness, especially people who’ve lost loved ones this year.
Perhaps your timeline is FULL of smiling faces, joyful families gathered around a tree and maybe you’re left feeling ‘why is everyone happier than me?’
I just wanted to let you know that you’re loved. God’s heart is broken with you and He loves you dearly. Maybe your household looks a bit different this year. Relationship breakdowns, financial stress, health complications, whatever it might be that’s caused you to struggle over the holidays, please know that you aren’t alone. You aren’t the only person not feeling to merry this Christmas.
I know there might feel like a pressure to be really, super happy at this time of year, but I pray that you can rest in Him and understand that you don’t have to pretend with your heavenly God. He see’s, He knows, He adores you.
I hope you can find comfort in the Christmas story, that our God would come to earth in human form to take away our sin. This beautiful story of grace can change your life, not only at Christmas but EVERY day.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
The intention of this post IS NOT to make anyone feel guilty about sharing your festivities online, I’ve put up a few photos myself. I just feel it’s important that while celebrating with our loved ones, to remember and pray for those in our lives who might be struggling this Christmas. Why not try reaching out to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while? Let’s be active and intentional with loving people this holiday.
I hope however you spent your Christmas that you feel loved, because you are.
