Ok, I’m going to ask you a question and I want you to answer honestly.
Have you ever missed out on an opportunity because you felt you were too young?
If ‘YES’ is your answer, I’m sure you aren’t the only one.
I sometimes wonder just how often young adults feel so intimidated or inadequate… that we don’t even have a go.
I’m not saying our generation is perfect, but we do sometimes get a bad rep. And if we believe the lie that we don’t have anything to offer because we aren’t old enough, or experienced enough, then we miss out… and so does the world.
This weekend I spoke at a conference (shout out to the incredible team at Premier Christian Radio for putting on an amazing event). I had to talk for 40 minutes. A presentation, and then Q&A. I knew deep down I could do it. I was so passionate about my topic, and I’ve done public speaking before.
The week leading up to the event, anxiety kicked in.
I looked up the other speakers and they were all incredible. They were experts…compared to them I felt like an infant.
What if they wonder what someone who has just graduated is doing on stage?
Genuinely, that’s what I was worried about.
It seems so silly now, after having had the BEST experience at the event and felt truly welcomed and respected by everyone. People were talking to me like I was an expert, not a child pretending to be an adult.
So my own insecurities were shown to be what they had always been, lies. And I’m SO grateful I didn’t let them stop me from stepping out of my comfort zone and using my knowledge and passion to empower others. I found that I was capable. I deserved my place there. And I want you to have a similar story.
What opportunity are you missing out on right now because you feel too young?
Please don’t miss out on your calling because of the fear of what others will think of you. I promise that if God has given you a platform, whatever that looks like, He’ll provide you with the strength to do what He’s asked of you.
