I know, I know, ‘weekly’ worship lyrics hasn’t happened…I failed. But I do have some lyrics on my heart this week that I would love to share with you friends.
Phil Wickham is one of my favourites- if you haven’t heard his songs, Youtube him NOW, you wont regret it…well, after you’ve finished reading this post of course 😉
My current obsession is The Secret Place.
Phil and a woman, whose name I don’t unfortunelty know but whose voice is BEAUTIFUL, sing of ‘running to the secret place’.
The melody is catchy, the guitar is lovely and their voices are smooth, but the thing that keeps pulling me back to this tune is the lyrics.
What is the secret place?
Quiet time with God is my secret place. It’s being in his presence, praying, reading His word.. and often belting out some worship songs. If the idea of spending time with God leaves you imaging pews, stained glass and praying when the priest asks you too, that’s not what being in relationship with God is about. Whilst being in church is a VERY central part to faith, some of the healthiest, most intimate and powerful moments can take place when we spend time alone with our Saviour. No lights or worship band, just a bible, a cup of tea and some worship music to hum along to.
Have you ever experienced a season when you know you aren’t spending enough time with God?
The days slip by quickly, the To-Do list stays lengthy. Suddenly bible study begins to be pushed to one side until the end of the day, and then you’re craving sleep so you put it off till tomorrow…and the process continues. Honesty time: I often find myself caught in this pattern.
But recently my soul has been more thirsty for His word. Time with God isn’t something I should be doing but something I want to do. This doesn’t mean that I’ve got my head in my bible for hours at a time, or that I’m never distracted but I’ve noticed that there’s been a shift in my heart, I’m craving time with God rather than simply fitting it into my day.
The lyrics resonate with my desire to run towards His presence and my prayer is that I would never stop running towards the secret place.
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest” Mark 6:31
What are you running to?
We are all running towards something. Ok, some days it’s more of a crawl. But my point is we are constantly moving towards something. There’s an end goal to motivate us in our daily life; financial stability, a relationship, travelling, a dream job.
It’s healthy to dream big, to have hopes for the future and to be expectant about what God can and will do in your life. But what if we started making running towards The Secret place, time in God’s presence, our priority? How would that impact us and those around us?
Let’s pray big prayers but above all let’s ask God for a hunger for Him, to know Him deeper and to delight in His presence.
Let me know what worship songs you’re listening to at the moment in the comments 🙂
