Wouldn’t it be AMAZING if there was a neat, easy to follow step-by-step guide for life? All of those big life events mapped out, timed perfectly, with organisational precision?
Unfortunately, life often throws major curve balls. Things don’t go as planned, relationships break down, the job goes to someone else, our travel plans end up cancelled.
When things don’t go as we’d like it’s easy to feel a bit stuck. Perhaps you’re at a cross roads right now and you’re trying to get your head around how to move forward.
‘What’s my next step?’
I reckon my most regular prayer throughout my life has been ‘Lord, please give me guidance’. Why? Because so often I feel like I have no idea what to do next.
When faced with a big decisions about our future it’s easy to feel intimidated. It’s natural to fall into the thinking that whatever path we take will have a knock on effect and greatly impact what our future will look like.
Here’s what I’ve learned though. While the decision that’s plaguing you is important, and will effect your future, it won’t completely determine the course of your life.
Your first job doesn’t have to be your career. You don’t have to marry someone just because you’ve been dating for a year.
I head a great speaker once who said that God is like a Sat Nav, He’ll provide the best route forward. However, if we make decisions to go left or right, or turn back and drive in the opposite direction altogether, He’ll still get us to our final destination.
So when it comes to making those big, scary life decisions please know that regardless of the ‘lefts’ and ‘rights’ you choose to take, He’ll get you to where you need to be eventually.
It only feels like last week I was talking to God about my Uni choice and it’s kinda crazy to think this time next year I’ll be faced with a huge ‘What’s my next step?’. The adult world seems closer than ever and whilst the thought of leaving the safety of the Uni bubble behind absolutely terrifes me, I know that my God will get me to my final destination.
If you’re reading this and you’re anxious about a big decision you need to make, please know that you aren’t alone.
He’s got you.
So take that step of faith.
Choose a path that feels right.
As long as you’re following Him, you’ll figure out where you’re going eventually.
