Looking for a great book to get stuck into this summer?
One of my favourite things about summer is relaxing on a beach with a book in my hands.
It’s the perfect chance to throw yourself into a story and let your mind be taken into the world of the book whilst you tan (or burn in my case).
Here are ten books that should be in your suitcase when you jet off on holiday this summer…
If you’re looking for a mystery which will grab you from the first page, this ones for you. The lives and memories of two strangers are explored as their lives become woven together.
Ok. Get tissues ready for this one. It’s a beautiful and sad story about parenthood. It’ll make you think ‘What would I do in that situation’ about 100000 times… and by the end you probably still won’t know.
This is one of my all time favourites. It’s a simple story of a woman stuck in the mundanity of adulthood, trying to raise her nephew. It’s a love story but it’s not your average boy meets girl.
Another mystery one. This is so beautifully written and captures a glimpse of two completely different lives.
Secrets and lies… every fiction lovers favorites. You won’t want to put this one down.
This is a dark and complex book. There are some pretty disturbing images but you’ll fall in love with the narrator as she tries to make sense of her past and her dysfunctional family.
Healey gives us access to the mind of an elderly lady who, despite the challenges of her dementia, is determined to find out where her friend is. It’s heartbreaking and hopeful.
I’m currently reading this one. It’s a chunky book which might seem off putting but I’ve found I’ve whizzed through it. It’s a beautiful account of a woman’s life, from her childhood up until her old age.
It’s a classic, it’s a great story, and it’s a novella so it’ll fit nicely into your suitcase. This love story avoids all cliche’s with it’s complex character’s.
A woman is in a coma and her stream of visitors attempt to figure out who Silvia really was. They end up uncovering a dark secret and a broken life. There are funny moments as well as sad. Perfect for a day or two in the sun.
I hope you find something on this list that captures your imagination this summer. Let me know what books you’ll be packing in your suitcase this year!
