I recently moved into a new place… (ok, over a month ago…this post is long overdue!).
On the night I moved in, I lay in my new bed in the darkness and prayed that the room would be a space of rest. A space I could return to and, whatever my day had been like, I could collapse onto my bed and feel at home.
A few weeks later, my room is finally feeling like my own. I’ve really enjoyed the process, from the position of the furniture to the small details.
Do you want to join me in creating a bedroom where you can truly rest, rejuvenate and spend time with God?
Here are my top tips for making your bedroom a cosy, safe environment:
I bagged this bedding for a fiver in a charity shop. The material feels really soft (and A LOT more expensive than what I paid for it!). I love the simple striped pattern, plus it feels like great quality. Buying second hand bedding can be a good option if you’re on a budget but there are loads of affordable bedding sets from places like IKEA and WILKO.
As soon as the fairy lights went up, my room felt transformed into a cosy, relaxing space. I got 200 fairy lights from Lights4fun and they delivered them pretty quickly. Amazon also have some good deals, like these 10m waterproof lights or these cute globe string lights. Shoutout to my boyfriend for making my pinterest dreams come true!
POSITION YOUR BED IN THE CORNER
One of the first things I did was to move my furniture around. Originally you’d walk into the room and the bed was directly in front of you. Once it was tucked into the corner furthest from the door, there was more floor space and everything felt more open. Having the bed up against the wall also makes it feel much more cosy, but that might just be my preference!
POSITIVE ART WORK
Why not deck out your walls with some art work that inspires you? I have a piece from (find out where), which I love. ETSY is the best place to find unique pieces (and support small businesses). This piece from Wondrous Workshop is my absolute favourite!
DISPLAY YOUR BOOKS
The bookshelves pictured below are the only piece of furniture I actually own (everything else is rented with the flat) so they are very precious to me. I had such a restful time choosing how to display my favourite books, and as soon as they were all on the shelves the room instantly felt more like home. You can also add something creative to the shelves, like this bunting which you can find here.
What’s better than constant reminders of some of your favourite memories? I love having physical photos to display in my room so every few months I’ll get a batch printed. Every time I try a new company but I recently used Photobox and was so happy with the finished product!
A lot of my ideas came from Pinterest. Want to follow along as I continue to search for decor inspo? You can find me here!
