Student relationships certainly have their benefits. I love growing and learning alongside my boyfriend as we navigate university life together. But amongst deadlines, projects and late nights it’s so important that we find time to enjoy each other’s company.
But how do you date on a student budget?
Us students are known for having empty purses, so I’ve put together 10 fun (but cheap!) date ideas…
GO FOR A PICNIC
This has got to be my fave cheap date idea. 3 pound meal deal each, something to sit on, find a quiet spot…and relax! If you’re looking for somewhere fun to picnic, why not use the RSPB website, pop in your postcode and find a nature reserve near you.
COLLECT THOSE CLUBCARD POINTS
I have a TESCO clubcard and loveee collecting points. You can keep up to date with your points online and exchange them for activities and meals out. Matt and I have planned a date at Pizza Express this week and the food will be completely FREEEEE. (is there anyone who doesn’t love FREE food?!)
AT HOME SPA DAY
Spa days are crazyyy out of my budget, so sometimes you have to improvise! Grab your favourite products and spend an afternoon chilling at home with face masks and snacks. Whilst this might seem like a bit of a girly day, you might be surprised how much your guy will enjoy being pampered and forced to completely rest for the day.
Exercising together can be fun (once you get over the post work out sweat and bright pink cheeks haha). Why not explore your local area by going for a jog? You don’t have to run the whole time, take plenty of stops along the way. The main point of this one is to get loads of fresh air and have the opportunity to spend time together away from screens.
ENJOY A SUNRISE/SUNSET
What’s better than a money-saving date? A completely free date! They’re pretty, romantic and provide a little instapportunity (that word will be in the dictionary soon, just you watch!)
I used to go fruit picking a lot as a child. It’s a fun activity for a sunny day and the best part is, you control how much you spend because you only pay for what you pick.
GO TO AN AMETEUR COMEDY CLUB
I truly believe couples who laugh together stay together! Maybe you’ve both had a long week, perhaps things are getting a little stressful. Why not take some time to enjoy a bit of light entertainment, most amateur comedians have great material but aren’t too expensive to go and watch. Have a google and see what’s on near you.
Nothing wrong with getting a little competition from time to time. Pub Quiz’s are often only a few pounds each and a fun way to work as a team and test your general knowledge. Best of all you could even win a prize!
PLAY TOURIST IN YOUR CITY
I know Exeter pretty well now but I still love wandering around and trying out new shops, cafes and walks. Go explore in your city together, bring a camera if you have one and see what you find!
Another free one! If you don’t fancy making yourself look presentable, have a PJ day and cuddle up to a few favourite films (snacks are necessary of course). Matt and I tend to keep a list on our phones of films we want to watch and we’re working through them which is fun.
Photos used are taken by the wonderful Chloegrace Pugh over at CaptureYou photography, check out her insta page to see all of her beautiful snaps!
