‘You’re ____’ (insert negative word someones called you).
We’ve ALL experienced put downs, criticisms and words that generally steal our joy. They sting right?
Some of us will be able to think of the odd insult that’s been thrown at us in the past but I know that someone is reading this and loads of hurtful words are coming to mind.
This is the painful reality for some people; experiencing DAILY discouragements, surrounded by people who speak negative words over them.
Sticks and stones may break my bones…but words can hurt too.
If you’re told something enough, you’ll begin to believe it.
I truly believe there are people being held back from stepping into the incredible giftings God has for them because of damaging words that people have spoken, or are currently saying about them. Maybe that’s creating, running a business, applying for a specific Uni course or serving on a team at church.
The words we absorb from others shape our opinion of ourselves and affect the decisions we make.
If you’re feeling stuck, unable to move forward and step out boldly in the things that you want to do, I want you to know that you’re not the only one who’s trapped by the criticisms and insults of others. We all carry scars of past hurts, some of us a lottttt more than others, and this can lead to crippling low self-esteem..which leads to untapped potential.
(and it’s a big but)
There is NOTHING that anyone can say that will take away your calling. No amount of abusive words can undo the purpose that God has for you. Someones inability to see your worth doesn’t mean you don’t have any.
Whatever lies are spoken over you, I want you to hear the truth. And I never want you to forget it…
Don’t believe me? Well, if you don’t want to listen to me then pleaseee listen to you’re Father, who absolutely ADORES you.
He says that you are worth more than rubies and pearls (proverbs 31) and that you’re wonderfully and fearfully made (Psalm 139).
Read those verses and tattoo those truths across your heart, because if we let them, they will shout louder than the insults and criticisms of others.
