Happy Valentine’s day friends!
I love, love.
I really do.
I know Valentine’s gets under a lot of people’s skin because it feels like just another excuse for large business’ to make some dollar.
The consumerism of the day isn’t my jam either, so I’m standing with those people who roll their eyes at all the teddies and balloons.
However, what is my jam is celebrating LOVE! And so often we forget to reflect on the loving relationships in our live’s that we’re grateful for. I never want to take my boyfriend for granted, but in daily life I don’t walk around constantly struck by how incredible he is (although, he is pretty incredible!).
So having a day set aside to show him that I value him and celebrate our love is great. Plus it’s a nice excuse to spend some quality time together.
Maybe you’re single this valentines, or maybe you have someone special that you want to celebrate with this Valentine’s.
Either way, I want to remind you that there is a greater love story than ANY you’ll read about on Instagram this year (Even the really sweet ones).
Even the most healthy, life-giving relationships, full of thoughtful gestures or gifts, don’t stand up against the love story I’m about to tell you…
The Greatest Love Story Ever Told
Humans can be AMAZING. But we can also disappoint, hurt, steal, lie and control one another. Why?
Because we have insecurities, fears and jealousies.
We’re broken… we’re human.
That doesn’t mean we can’t experience great relationships but it does mean that our relationships might not always be the way we want them. We might argue sometimes, or let each other down.
We put so much pressure on our relationships, wanting them to be perfect. But the reality is (and sometimes this isn’t a fun thing to admit)- We aren’t perfect. Our partner isn’t perfect. Therefore our relationships will never be perfect.
But the beautiful, joyful truth is that we have access to a relationship with someone who is perfect, our Saviour Jesus Christ.
He won’t let us down, He won’t break our hearts.
The greatest love story of all time is that Jesus would die so that we could live in freedom and be in relationship with our heavenly father, a relationship which is the most important one we’ll ever experience.
The greatest love story of all time is one of sacrifice, of forgiveness, of true peace and unconditional love.
Have you read the greatest love story?
This valentines I’m going to make sure I make some time to celebrate the love I have for my boyfriend and friends but most importantly, I’m going to take a moment to reflect on the only relationship which is constantly loving, forgiving and relentless, even when I muck up and fail.
If you’re with me and want to spend some time in worship this valentines, here are a list of songs which remind me of God’s faithful love. I hope you enjoy them x
